Bedford Hills: A Cozy Hamlet

Bedford Hills is a hamlet, part of the town of Bedford. The center of town features the Bedford Hills MetroNorth station, along with several businesses.

The hamlet features some interesting homes, including two homes on the National Register of Historic Places. One is Stepping Stones, the longtime home of Alcoholics Anonymous founder Bill Wilson, which is now open for tours and is often visited by members of 12-step programs like AA.

The other is the Richard H. Mandel House, an International-style home built in 1935 and designed by architect Edward Durell Stone, who was also the architect for Radio City Music Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Florida State Capitol, and the PepsiCo world headquarters in Purchase.

Bedford Hills is also home to two correctional institutions for women: the Taconic Correctional Facility and the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women.
